Brokers and MGAs

You bind on their paper. Show every risk was inside the binder.

An MGA or coverholder binds under a capacity provider's authority: its classes, limits, territories and wording. HONESTAS checks each risk against that authority before you bind, not afterwards. Bordereaux to your capacity providers come straight from the records, and your clients can see how their claims are going.

Where it helps

Six decisions made on someone else's paper.

Each one leaves a sealed record your capacity provider can check. Open one to see what goes in, what comes out and who signs.

One bind, step by step

A coastal warehouse, bound inside the pen.

Harbourline Underwriting, a fictional MGA, binds on the paper of Northgate Mutual, a fictional insurer, for a client of Tollard, a fictional broker. Six steps from the submission to the broker's view of a claim. Scroll, and the screen follows the step.

  1. 01 · Submission

A broker sends a coastal warehouse.

Tollard, the broker, sends Greyfell Logistics' dockside warehouse in Immingham to Harbourline Underwriting, an MGA writing on Northgate's paper. The presentation is read and filed with its sources.

Tollard sends it. Harbourline's desk reads it.

  2. 02 · Authority

Inside the pen, line by line.

Before anyone quotes, the risk is checked against binding authority CA-118: class, territory, limits, referral rules and wording. The coastal limit is the one Northgate narrowed and Harbourline confirmed.

The check runs before the underwriter sees a price.

  3. 03 · Price

The rate book, and a second opinion.

The premium comes from Northgate's rate book. A second, independent model works it out again and lands within the allowed difference. With no signals, triage sends it to a short room with the underwriter in the chair.

    Dan Alvez, underwriter, chairs it.

  4. 04 · Bind

    Bound, signed and sealed.

The underwriter binds with a passkey. The record carries the binder version, the checks that passed and the price, and is sealed and time-stamped outside Harbourline.

Dan Alvez, underwriter at Harbourline, binds.

  5. 05 · Bordereau

The bordereau writes itself from records.

At month end the risk bordereau to Northgate is built from the sealed binds, in the Lloyd's reporting format. Every row links to its record, and every row is checked against the binder again before it goes.

Harbourline's delegated authority lead sends it.

  6. 06 · A claim

The broker's view of a claim.

Later, Greyfell has a storm claim on another policy. Through a seat Northgate gives, Tollard sees where the claim is, what was decided and what was sent, and can tell the client without chasing.

Northgate decides the claim. Tollard sees it.
